Bringing the point home, Lexus decided to show off the towing capabilities of the GX 460 with a Patriot Campers X1H trailer and the Redarc Tow-Pro brake controller. The list of improvements continues with all-terrain tires measuring 275/70 R18, a custom front bumper with a winch, radio system, 50-inch light bar, Alu-Box storage cases, and a pair of Maxtrax recovery boards.
Based on the Toyota Land Cruise in Prado flavor, the GX has been redesigned for the 2020 model year. The spindle grille and triple-beam LED headlamps are the most obvious changes, but for the first time ever, customers are also treated to an off-road package that includes Multi-Terrain Monitor.
Standing true to the ethos of the Land Cruiser, the GX further features a two-speed transfer case and torque-sensing center differential, Crawl Control, and Multi-Terrain Select. Some things, however, never change.
The engine is a well-known V8 with 4.6 liters of displacement, packing 301 horsepower and 329 pound-feet of torque. When equipped properly, that suck-squeeze-bang-blow enables the GX 460 to tow up to 6,500 pounds (2,948 kilograms). Expect the 2020 model year to arrive at dealerships towards the end of 2019 with a small price bump over the outgoing model ($52,505 excluding destination charge).
