New England Patriots: Chad Johnson makes fun of himself for time with team

June 12 (UPI) — Former All-Pro wide receiver Chad Johnson wasn’t the same player he was with the New England Patriots as he was with the Cincinnati Bengals. He talked about the experience this weekend on Twitter.

Johnson, 39, hasn’t played in the NFL since 2011. He was a two-time All-Pro and six-time Pro Bowler in 11 NFL seasons.

The second round pick in the 2001 NFL Draft had 10,783 yards and 66 touchdowns on 751 catches with the Bengals. He had just 15 grabs for 276 yards and a score in 15 games for the Patriots.

He had one catch for 21 yards in the Patriots’ 21-17 loss to the New York Giants in Super Bowl XLVI. Johnson was cut the following June.

“I really love you guys & hope your day is going well, if it’s not going well just remember nothing is worse than my stats w/ the Patriots,” Johnson tweeted Saturday afternoon.

Johnson, who changed his name to Chad Ochocinco during his playing career, will play in a new flag football league on June 27. Michael Vick and Justin Forsett are also slated to take part in the contest at Avaya Stadium in San Jose, Calif.

Johnson, known for his spectacular touchdown celebrations and trash talk, recently had a part in the NFL’s new guidelines for celebrating scores. He spoke with NFL commissioner Roger Goodell “at length” before the rule change was announced.

Johnson also had a short stint with the Miami Dolphins in 2012, but didn’t make it to Week 1 after an arrest. He signed with the CFL’s Montreal Alouettes in 2014.
